I am Roving Cat.
I’m Angela! I make everything we sell by hand.
I’ve been spinning since I was two years old. The family story reports that my mom lost track of me while she was demonstrating fiber arts at the Southern California Renaissance Fair. When she found me, I was standing on a hay bale with her drop spindle, showing a crowd of people how to use it. I’ve been spinning and weaving since!
I spin, weave, sew, quilt, crochet, and knit. That gives me a wide range of fiber arts experience that helps me make special yarns that crafters can use for heirloom quality projects. But of these, spinning and weaving are my favorites.
I’ve lived all across the US (hence the pun on “roving”) and finally settled into the Pacific Northwest in 2022. These beautiful mountains truly feel like home at last!
Even though I’ve been spinning and weaving for longer than I can remember, I’m always learning new things!

Every yarn has a tale
—
It’s not just a good pun! Here at Roving Cat, we believe that every yarn has a tale. We love handcrafting because of the stories that go along with every piece, at every step. I love it when I know the name of the sheep I’m spinning from, and I and I love that you can add your own beautiful story to the fiber. As a spin, I ply in a piece of my own creative spirit. I love imagining the beautiful stories that my customers will add to the yarn’s tale. Every hand the fiber goes through is another story, another person whose love and care have crafted your project.
Meet the wheel
I bought my Ashford Traditional wheel second-hand in 2023. Ashford wheels are made in New Zealand and are popular among handspinners for their reliability and simple beauty. This one is single-drive, single treadle, and currently outfitted with the standard flyer, which limits how big each skein can be.
When I bought her, the wheel croaked something awful and she lacked a drive band. I’ve lovingly maintained her with wax, cotton, and felt, and now she sings as beautifully as she spins!
But what about the cats?
Roving Cat was named for my love of cats in general, not for any specific cat.
Right now we have two feline assistants in house.
-
MechanikittyGrimoire is a curious kitten. We adopted her from the Muncie Animal Shelter in Indiana in 2021 as a good luck charm. She’s chatty and quirky and always inspects my tools for me.
-
SupurrvisorPorch Cat is my constant companion when I’m spinning, weaving, knitting, typing, or doing anything else quiet with my hands. He’s been my best friend since 2014. He generally doesn’t interfere; he just sits with me and enjoys the art.
